Don’t Delay Your Child’s First Eye Exam

June 29, 2022

Regular eye exams are important at any age, but a child’s first vision screening—recommended by age 18 months—by a pediatrician is quite significant. Some early problems can influence their vision for the rest of their lives, and correcting poor visual acuity is crucial in the development of a child’s sight. Detecting a problem promptly can prevent a small issue from turning into a big issue.

When you want a pediatric practice that’s dedicated to providing the topmost standard of personalized care, look no further than the office of Prime Immediate and Primary Care. Our goal is to provide a warm and welcoming experience for all youngsters and their parents.

As with any experience new to a child, it’s usually best to familiarize her (or him) with what to expect. A little preparation goes a long way. If your child’s comprehension is strong enough, explain to her what will happen during her exam. Tell her that the doctor will ask her to look at and identify objects that could be pictures, letters or light shapes on a wall.

The doctor will examine your child for:

  • Nearsightedness: Called myopia, someone can see up-close things clearly, but far away objects are fuzzy.
  • Farsightedness: Called hyperopia, it’s the opposite of myopia.
  • Astigmatism: One or both eyes aren’t shaped properly, making everything somewhat blurry.
  • Amblyopia: Also called lazy eye, it’s one eye’s inability to see details. It is the most common cause of vision problems in children and reversible when caught early.

Prime Immediate and Primary Care has the skill and determination to provide unparalleled professional knowledge. When you visit our office, you can be confident that your child will receive the finest and most advanced treatment available. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for an appointment.
